Welcome to the Theology in Music blog. The blog is a new venture in 2025 in which approximately weekly instalments will discuss and reflect on some aspect of Christian theology as illustrated by some work of music. Most posts will discuss a specific work, and be led by the music into the theology being expressed, though we may also take on issue posts, considering a particular theological idea as explored through multiple musical instances.

To begin with the works will predominantly derive from the Western Art Music tradition, though we may expand beyond this if the project survives long enough. The theology illustrated will be Christian Theology drawn from a variety of sources. The blog’s author is an Anglican (within the Liberal Catholic wing of the Church of England) but has interests in Catholic, Orthodox, and Reformation theologies, so there is no intention to be denominationally exclusive.
